Support for the Restoration and Multifaceted Functions of Kyoto’s Forests

The Kyoto Model Forest Association serves as the secretariat for the “Grant Program for Enhancing the Multifaceted Functions of Forests and Mountain Villages,” a national initiative by the Forestry Agency.

Currently, many Satoyama forests in Kyoto face degradation, such as the unchecked spread of invasive bamboo, due to the weakening connection between local communities and their surrounding woodlands. This decline hinders the forests’ ability to provide essential public benefits, including disaster prevention and water resource conservation.

To address these issues, we provide support to local community organizations dedicated to forest maintenance, the conservation of rural environments, and the sustainable utilization of forest resources. Our goal is to assist in establishing robust systems for community-led forest management.

We are now accepting applications for the Fiscal Year 2026 program. Organizations seeking support for their activities are invited to submit their applications by March 31, 2026.
