On January 27, 2026, ten two-year-old children from Saga Kobato Nursery School in Ukyo Ward, Kyoto City, participated in a “Forest Delivery Lesson” guided by the Kumogahata Commons and the Yui Forestry Cooperative.
The session began with a gentle “Forest Talk” by the instructors. Using photos of forest plants and animals, they introduced the importance of the forest in a way that captured the toddlers’ imagination. The children were also curious to learn how mushrooms grow. Following the talk, the students had a hands-on experience planting shiitake mushroom spores into Konara Oak (Quercus serrata) logs.
The children listened intently to the forest stories and participated energetically in the quizzes. During the planting activity, they focused closely on the small holes in the logs, carefully using their hammers by following the instructor’s demonstration.
It was a wonderful opportunity for even the youngest learners to deepen their interest in nature and discover the joy of the forest.
These “Forest Delivery Lessons” are made possible through the “Green Fund” contributions received from the public. We invite you to continue supporting this initiative to help us provide meaningful environmental education for children of all ages.
