On Saturday, April 12, 2025, the 4th Children’s ‘Forest-Making’ and Experiential Learning Event “Enjoy the New Greenery at Ishida Forest!” was held at Ishida Forest in Nyoigadake, Sakyo Ward, Kyoto City. A total of 36 participants, including 17 elementary school students and their guardians, joined the event. Together with forest instructors, they explored the forest while observing nature, and in the afternoon, they created original eco-bags using leaf stamps.
Cherry blossoms greeted the participants. Holding the map of “Ishida Forest,” the participants divided into groups and set off on their adventure.
They greeted the massive Akagashi trees. Tree trunk chairs also made an appearance.
As they walked, listening to the forest instructors, they discovered many interesting things.
Today, they focused on the various shapes of leaves.
Fallen trees and tree stumps can teach us a great deal about their history.
They listened to stories about butterflies that visit Akagashi trees and observed its eggs.
In the afternoon, they made original eco-bags by combining leaves of various colors and shapes as stamps. Everyone was absorbed in creating their one-of-a-kind bag!
Finally, participants received certificates from the instructor and concluded the program.

“It was beautiful to see the mountain cherry trees in bloom. I learned the difference between them and Somei Yoshino, the dominant species in Japan.”
“I was amazed by the various shapes and types of leaves.”
“It was my first time trying leaf stamping. It wasn’t easy to get used to rubbing the leaves to bring out the color, but I am pleased with the results.”
